Principal’s Welcome

Principal PaulMany Languages – One Voice

Welcome to Richmond West Primary School. Our school is located in the densely populated inner eastern suburb of Richmond on the fringe of the Melbourne Central Business District. We are proud of our well-established bilingual programs that support and encourage children in the development of Chinese, Vietnamese and English, as first and second languages. Our school is unique in that this most successful bilingual immersion program, conceived early in the school’s establishment, is now regarded as a rare model attracting interest from diverse stakeholders across the educational sector at state, national and international levels.

Our vision at Richmond West Primary School is to value language within a community of practice where students become life-long learners that are literate, numerate and curious. We strive to develop articulate, socially responsible and resilient individuals who are working towards achieving their full potential as global citizens.

I look forward to meeting you in person soon.

Paul Ledwidge,
Principal, Richmond West Primary School

Our kitchen is really taking shape!

KitchenOur new kitchen is taking shape and will be completed in the coming weeks. Staff at the school have started to look at how a kitchen program might run at the school and we have had many helpful suggestions from our school community. We expect to involve many local groups and partnerships as well as enhancing whole school celebrations and activities such as next year’s Harmony Day.

Sister school visit

Sister-school-visitWe were delighted to welcome visitors from our sister school. Twelve visiting students with one accompanying parent, plus three teachers participated in school and sightseeing activities throughout their three day visit. We were impressed by their proud performances in assembly and their participation in our Literacy and Numeracy programs. During the visit, our Sister School expressed an interest in maintaining our strong relationship and is looking forward to hosting Richmond West Primary School families in 2017.

Hats on in term one

Richmond West Primary School is a registered SunSmart school member committed to ensuring students and staff are protected from too much UV which can cause skin and eye damage and skin cancer. Our school uniform includes covering clothing and sun protective hats and we have shady spaces for students to access. But we need your help.

School agreements and three-step telling

logo-orange-background4The school consistently refers to six agreements that can also be used at home to reinforce positive choices and behaviours. They are:
  • Hands, feet and objects to yourself
  • One person speaking at a time
  • Right words, right place
  • Do what you’re asked the first time
  • Right place, right time
  • My space, your space
